If you’re thinking of starting your weight loss journey, you must be searching for a proper routine to lose weight and a weight loss story that can guide you to reach your goal. In this research, you might have come across weight loss transformation stories on the internet.
These stories undoubtedly inspire you to work on your weight & copy their diet plans & exercise routines. But the question is how to lose weight healthily so you can sustain it later.
Because it’s often seen that people at first lose weight by following some specific diet routines but they fail to maintain it later and gain more weight than before. Do you know what’s the reason behind their failures?
Today, I have an honest weight loss story of my friend Utsuk who will clear your doubts about why people fail. He will also guide you on how to lose weight in a very balanced & healthy manner rather than losing it quickly. Because He not only lost 20 kg in 11 months but also sustained it.
I apologize for not sharing his ‘before & after photos’ here because he was a camera-conscious person because of his weight.
But you can read his journey below.

#1. Utsuk, when did you start your weight loss journey?
In 2019, I was sitting at home preparing for my CA exams from the last year and a half. I failed twice & put on a good amount of weight and felt so upset.
One day, I got a chance to measure myself on a weight machine. And what I saw was shocking! The weight machine read my weight as ’90 kg’.
It blew up my mind!!
From that day on, I decided to get back in shape.
#2. Tell us about the weight loss routine that you followed
- Start the day with hot water + 1 lemon
- No sugar, no butter at all. If you can’t control it, use natural sugar alternatives in moderation.
- Exercise twice a day – 20 Min each. It included rope skipping, push-ups, crunches, stretching, Plank for 1 minute
- When I say no sugar, then it means no sweets, and no sugar in tea/coffee/milk.
- Had a normal breakfast and lunch. If I am having stuff like paratha, then I didn’t take butter with that. These small things do help.
- The aim was to increase my metabolism which I achieved through regular exercise, avoiding fatty things, and having a cup of green tea daily. These things help you in improving your metabolism. So even if you are not doing anything, sitting idle, your body digests food at a slightly faster speed and increases metabolism, which results in the burning of fat.

#3. Any specific time for drinking green tea?
Anytime during the day! Between breakfast and dinner. Usually after breakfast.
I avoid green tea at night because to me it feels like it dehydrated the body and I get very thirsty at night if I drink green tea after dinner.
#4. Tell us about your exercise routine.
About 400 times rope skip… 10-15 push-ups and planks. Normal stretching.
And I try to do exercise 5 days a week.. because your body needs rest too.

#5. Did you repeat the same exercise every day? Or you included some specific additional workouts in between?
No, I used to do the same exercise daily.
However, I realized later that it was wrong. I should have added 2 or 3 more workouts.
#6. Your weight loss diet chart in detail?
Breakfast- normal
Lunch – regular, but reduced chapati from 3 to 1 and consumed more pulses.
Evening – no snacks/biscuits… Usually 25-30 gm of paneer, seasonal fruits.
Then, evening exercise.
Dinner – I try to complete dinner by 7:30 p.m. For 4 months I ate only vegetable soup & dailya.
After 1 hour of dinner, I used to go for a walk for 30-40 min. I still do this.
#8. What are other things that you did to achieve your weight loss goal faster?
Sleep 6-7 hours daily and drink plenty of water. Because you feel like you’re hungry if you don’t drink enough water.
For example, I used to complete my dinner at 7.30 and dinner was usually light like soup, or daliya. And I went for a night walk then I felt hungry till 10 p.m.
That time, I first drank water because that hunger was not physical hunger, it was only in my mind. My body didn’t require food, it required some water instead.
#9. How much water should one drink daily?
No measure. You need to drink 1 glass of water every 1-2 hours.

#10. Did you reach your weight loss goal? How much could you lose and in how many months?
Max, I lost 20 kg… My highest was 90… And the lowest was 69-70. And my height is 5’6″.
The target should be that you lose 2-3 Kg in a month in a balanced manner.
#11. In one sentence, what’s it that you could lose weight and sustain it?
By following & sticking to one healthy routine with some exercise & diet plan! Yes! This is the key! And that’s what you will notice while reading my weight loss story.
You must stick to one routine and not get carried away with seeing new types of diets every day thinking that mine is not working properly.
#12. Utsuk, why do people fail to stick to one routine, according to you?
Sticking to your routine becomes difficult because you’re in a hurry and want to lose weight fast anyhow and not in a balanced manner (ref). This leads you nowhere except to keep changing your routine.
You read how someone lost 10 kg, 15 kg or 20 kg and you get inspired so much that you leave your diet plan and start following theirs. It happens like this one month you’re following keto, and another month paleo, another month low carb and this goes on.
Final words
I hope you like this weight loss story of my friend. If you’re also on this journey:
Just try to be determined and keep following a healthy routine.
How simple or difficult it would be to reach your weight loss goal majorly depends upon the choice of your diet routine & lifestyle.
Good luck!

Well done, Utsuk, that’s a huge success! Thank you so much for this inspiring article. My brother struggles with excess weight and makes mistakes because he persistently changes his diet to lose weight, tries various diet plans, and soon regains all the lost pounds. Your first-hand advice is fantastic. I will forward this article to him as additional motivation.

I love honest weight loss stories, rather than those concocted by self-proclaimed fitness experts on Instagram or TikTok. I’m currently on my own weight loss journey, which is compounded by my battle with anxiety, making it far from easy. There are days when I feel incredibly motivated, and then there are days when I want to abandon all efforts. Nonetheless, I am aware that losing weight is a marathon rather than a sprint, and I strive to progress slowly but surely. Your story has been immensely inspiring – thank you!
